#TuesdayCoreNight: What is it?

Let’s face it – core sucks. If you enjoy core workouts, I’m sorry, but I don’t get you. Please tell me what planet you came from so I can study your people.

Yet, core is so important for any sport, especially climbing. Can’t keep your feet on the 30 degree? Core! Can’t bring your feet up to higher holds? Core! No matter how you look at it, it’s impossible to ignore how imperative core is to better climbing.

We’ve had a tradition at our wall for awhile now that every Tuesday is core night. At 9 when our regular hours are over, we move all the mats and clear a big space. We put a timer on the computer so we can all see, and do whatever workouts we choose before hand at 1 minute intervals. We go for about 6 minutes (6 different exercises), take a 2 minute break and then repeat again for 6 minutes.

I love how this gets me into a core routine, and would like to extend this out to anyone who wants to join! No equipment required – we only do basic exercises. Every week we change it up so we don’t get bored, and the challenge is not in the difficulty of each exercise, but the collective difficulty over 6 minutes without stopping.

So, every Tuesday I will post our schedule for the night so you can follow along. You only have to commit to 14 minutes one night a week! You can’t beat that! Make sure to let me know how it’s going – if you’re on  instagram, take a picture or video of you participating with the hashtag #tuesdaycorenight and tag @eastcoastclimbers to be featured in one of my posts!
