My cardio routine finally felt comfortable. I was going 3 nights a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) and sticking to it for months. It wasn’t even a fight to get to the gym!
All was well until I decided to take a week off to recuperate from a bad cold. Then I took the next week off after that, and then all of a sudden my routine was non-existent. Competition season began, relatives were visiting, I had volunteering obligations, blah, blah, blah, etc. For the past month I’ve only been hitting up the cardio machines once, rarely twice a week. I missed it dearly, and I wanted it back. 🙁
Out popped the cardio challenge! I had the idea of challenging a friend of mine, Carlie, to a cardio distance race. Life is still busy, but I wanted to mostly remind myself that I have to make time for this to work. Cardio is great because post-workout I always feel alert, limber and just generally in better mental and physical health. In the back of my mind I also hoped this would lead me back to my old routine that I so carelessly lost.
The challenge was who could run and bike the furthest distance in one week. Pretty straight forward, right? See how we did:
