If I wanted the height factor, my harness, rope, and I would visit a nice sport crag and climb with a decent sense of security.
Seemingly all at once I was hearing about strong women opening up about the pressure they feel to be someone else or to portray themselves a certain way, and how confusing that can be. We don’t always get to hear about the other side of success, the human side. They were starting a conversation I wanted to be a part of.
While watching ABS Nationals last weekend, I, like many other spectators I assume, were intrigued by the scoring system used to rank competitors. With my detective hat and magnifying glass in hand, I set out to understand how this system really works. Let me tell you, this was NOT easy. I started by reading the USA Climbing rule book which had tons of detail but also not enough clarification. So instead I studied youtube, various articles, and this year’s score cards to eventually came to an acceptable level of understanding.
It sort of feels like comp season is over, but that’s not true in the slightest. Not having any immediate competitions on the horizon has made me take a longer than necessary break from my training plan… oops. However, I’m so pumped for the new year, it’s not even funny. Here’s what I have planned thus far:
